THE COTSWOLD BIG BAND: A BRIEF HISTORY

The Cotswold Big Band has its origins in 2008, following the folding of a band called “The Jazz Project”, whose members were based in and around Cheltenham and Gloucester. Most of those from the original Jazz Project wanted to carry on and 5 of them still play in the band today. As and when members left other players with a love of the Big Band sound of “Brass, Reeds and Rhythm” were recruited and eventually became known as the Cotswold Big Band.

The ensemble now compromises the classic “Big Band” set-up of 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, Rhythm guitar, bass guitar, drums and keyboards – and a vocalist. Their repertoire is constantly evolving and comprises an eclectic mix of traditional jazz and swing standards as well as contemporary rock and pop. They have performed all over Gloucestershire and beyond, including Bristol Zoo, Berkeley Castle – and Standish Court!
